Acne is a very common inflammatory skin condition that affects the hair follicles and oil glands of the skin. It occurs when pores become blocked with excess oil (sebum), dead skin cells, and bacteria, leading to the formation of blockages and pimples, potentially progressing to inflammation with pustules and cysts in more sever cases.
While acne is most associated with teenagers due to hormonal changes during puberty, it can affect people of all ages — including adults. Acne can occur on the face as well as body and may range from mild occasional breakouts to more severe, persistent inflammatory acne.
